Frequently Asked Questions

What does the check engine light mean?

It means your car's computer detected something outside normal parameters. Could be minor (loose gas cap) or serious (catalytic converter). The only way to know is to scan it.

Can I drive with the check engine light on?

If the light is steady and the car runs fine, you can usually drive to get it diagnosed. If it's flashing, that's serious—stop driving and call me.

Do you just read the code or actually diagnose the problem?

I diagnose. A code tells you what system has a problem, not what part failed. I use the code as a starting point, then test to find the actual cause.

How long does diagnostics take?

Basic diagnostics take 30-60 minutes. Complex issues may take longer. I'll give you a time estimate when we talk.

Will you clear the code after diagnosis?

I can clear it after we fix the problem. Clearing without fixing just makes the light come back.
